The Fall 2009 opening exhibition in the College of the Desert Library is works of art by Donna Mitchell.
"Daydream Postcards" is a special painting product that is a mixture of acrylic paint and plaster. “I discovered that by using use the palms of my hands I could rub the paint at a certain look/feel of wet and dry to give the colors that rich inner luminosity,” said Mitchell, who began the series just after finishing at the Art Institute of Chicago while working as a color match specialist in a home improvement store’s paint center and attending COD. She was enrolled in an acrylic painting class taught by David Einstein.
Mitchell liked the concept of building and painting sample walls like paint chips on a larger scale. “Changing the art on your wall is like changing the wall with every season/mood change, “ said Mitchell. She likes to create art to make her audience think.
Mitchell’s work will be on exhibition through Nov. 21 on the Garrow Gallery Wall in the COD Library.
