Honor students at College of the Desert (COD) along with other campus clubs are collecting food donations to help the homeless.
The Food drive will be held through Nov. 19 and donated items will be delivered to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission on Nov. 20. There are several donation drop off locations on campus: the Hilb Student Center outside of the Student Life office, the lobby of the Barker Nursing Complex, the lobby of the McCarthy Child Development Center, MESA Office in South Annex 9, and The Mind Shack.
In October, members of Beta Rho Iota chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society, erected a Homeless Village, constructed of cardboard boxes and tents, and lived in it for one night in order to call attention to the plight of the homeless. That was the kick off for a Holiday Food Drive that the students are hosting to benefit the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. The Associated Student Government (ASCOD), and the student clubs ACES and MESA, have joined forces with Phi Theta Kappa in the Food Drive, to work on this community service project.
