CalWORKs at College of the Desert

The College of the Desert CalWORKs program is the college portion of the (Cal)ifornia (W)ork (O)pportunity and (R)esponsibility to (K)ids.
Goal
To assist CalWORKs students obtain their educational certificates and/or degree, while gaining employment and experience that leads to sustainable employment.
Case Management
Students will receive on-going support to assist them in succeeding and attaining their educational goals. The primary focus of case management is to assist the students in overcoming obstacles and barriers which may prevent them from reaching self-sufficiency.
Work Study
The Desert Community College District CalWORKs Work Study Program is a state funded, welfare reform program designed to stimulate and promote employment of eligible students by providing work opportunities on and off campus and provide an additional source of income within the requirements of the CalWORKs program.
Work Experience
Students who are participating in a paid/unpaid work or job training activity may earn college credit through the work experience program. Work-study and work experience may be done simultaneously.
Child Care
Students with children from birth through age 12 are eligible to receive childcare services while going to school and work. This program follows the Riverside County guidelines and allows parental choice of providers. Many children are served on campus at the COD Child Development Center.
Where Do I Begin ?
Any student attending College of the Desert who is receiving financial assistance through the county and state programs of CalWORKs/GAIN or DPSS may receive services through this program.
Bring the following information with you when you come to the CalWORKs office:
- Current Notice of Action
- Class Schedule
- Social Security Card for yourself and your children
- Referral to Activity (Plan 109 CIV)
