 Summer and Smoke - by Tennesee Wiliams, centers on a high-strung, unmarried minister's daughter, Alma Winemiller, and the spiritual/sexual romance that nearly blossoms between her and the wild, undisciplined young doctor who grew up next door, John Buchanan, Jr.

 

Character List:

Rev. Winemiller - The minister of the local Episcopal church and is in his early 50's.

Mrs. Winemiller - known as Rev. Winemiller's "cross", is a spoiled and selfish girl.

John Buchanan, Jr.  - is a Promethean figure, brilliantly and restlessly alive in a stagnant society.

Alma Winemiller - Alma had an adult qualilty as a child and now, in her middle twenties, there is something prematurely spinsterish about her.

Rosa Gonzales - is the daughter of the owner of the Moon Lake Casino.

Nellie Ewell - a girl of sixteen with a radiantly fresh healthy quality.

Roger Doremus - a small man, somewhat like a sparrow.

Dr. John Buchanan  - A fine looking old man in the best Southern tradition.

Vernon - a willowy younger man with Byronic locks.

Mrs. Bassett - a widow

Rosemary - a wistful older girl with a long neck and thick-lensed glasses who is the Public Librarian.

Dusty - the waiter.

Gonzales - Rosa's father and owner  of the Moon Lake Casino and a heavy drinker.

Archie Kramer - a young man just beginning his career as a traveling salesman.
