Automotive / Advanced Transportation: 

Compressed Natural Gas Cylinder Inspection

This two-day course provides automotive and transit technicians with in-depth knowledge of cylinder construction and how to inspect for damage or structural failure, including how to perform required 3 year/36,000 mile inspections.  The training prepares participants for the CSA CNG Fuel System Inspector exam and certification.
Instructor: Douglas Redman
Cost: The cost will be $780 per participant (includes training and materials). An exam fee by CSA will cost $375.
Dates: TBA.  Times: First day from 8am- 5pm; second day 8am-3pm. An hour will be provided for lunch (on own).

First Responder Training

First Responder Training is for those that bravely respond to accidents and other emergency situations on our roadways, including fire, police, and rescue personnel.  Tow truck drivers will also benefit from this training,  It covers the variety of alternative fuel and electric vehicle propulsion and storage systems now on the road and how to approach them safely when compromised in an accident.

Automotive Faculty and StudentCollege of the Desert's Automotive and Advanced Transportation Technology programs prepare automotive technicians for the alternative fuel, electric, and hybrid vehicles traveling the roadways in increasing numbers. These advanced skills are taught through courses conducted on campus as part of the College's A.S. Degree in Advanced Transportation Technology, as well as through certificates offered for technicians seeking specialized credentials. Courses are also taught for workforce skill development through short-term, fee-based, and contract offerings.
In Fall 2011, for the first time ever, the program will offer a number of online courses.

  • Natural Gas Vehicles (light and heavy-duty)
  • LPG Fueled Vehicles
  • Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles
