BSI Objective #2. 

 

In fall 2009, a BSI Professional Development Task Force, working with the Faculty Development Committee of the Academic Senate, will develop a plan for continuous professional development services designed to expand understanding of basic skills students and to support faculty initiatives to improve teaching and learning in the classroom and support services outside the classroom.

  • 1.  Create mission, vision and values statements for BSI Professional Development that support a campus-wide, interdepartmental, sustained and collective effort geared toward teaching excellence.

    ·         When:  December 2009

  • 2.  Develop a BSI Teaching-Learning Resource Center (BSI TLRC) that becomes a central feature of BSI professional development activities at the college.  The BSI TLRC will provide high visibility and credibility to campus-wide conversations focused on forward-looking teaching/learning.

  • 3.  Plan the coordination of BSI Professional Development agenda with faculty and staff development committees and Title V professional development efforts at COD.

  • 4.  Propose a means for creating a culture of inquiry, reflective teaching , peer mentoring and evidence-based instructional improvement which encourages faculty to take a primary role in assessment, planning/design and implementation of basic skills forums and activities geared toward teaching excellence.

  • 5.  Create plans for professional development frameworks that identify the characteristics of Master Teachers and Master Students and that addresses the developmental needs of individual faculty and diverse student populations towards mastery teaching and learning.
