Employee Medical and Dental Benefits

Full Time Employees are eligible to select from several medical plan options: Kaiser HMO, Blue Shield PPO (four coverage options), or Blue Shield HMO.  Two dental coverage plans are available to these employees as well: Delta Dental PPO or Anthem Dental Net HMO.  Coverage costs for the current coverage year are listed in the 2017-2018 Active Eligible Employee Rate Sheet below.  Open Enrollment is available to all eligible employees annually, with new plan elections taking effect as of October 1 of that year.  Enrollment forms are available on the Human Resources Portal (login required).  

Temporary, Substitute, Seasonal, and Part-Time Employees are eligible to opt into the Blue Shield Anchor Bronze Plan.  Open enrollment is available to these employees annually, with new plan elections taking effect as of October 1 of that year.  Enrollment forms are available on the Human Resources Portal (login required).  ​

Additional Benefits Information

403(b) Retirement Savings Plans

Open to all employee groups. These are employee-defined contribution retirement plans available from vendors such as American Funds, Horace-Mann and others. To view a full list of the available plans, please visit the College of the Desert Envoy website. To be eligible for matching, offered solely through American Funds, you must meet our current eligibility criteria. For more details on the match program, please consult your collective bargaining agreement or the Office of Human Resources.

Vision Insurance

Our current carrier, Anthem Blue View Vision, provides coverage for exams, contacts, lenses, and frames for in-network providers.

Flex Spending Account (FSA)

Our FSA, administered by Discovery Benefits, offers a Health Spending Account and Dependent Care Account to cover qualified expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

EAP coverage through SISC/Anthem Blue Cross provides services for employees and family members including short-term counseling, legal consultations, financial counseling, referrals, and other services.

Life and AD&D Insurance

Employees are provided district paid life insurance of $50,000 through Anthem Life.

Long Term Care

Employees are provided a basic district paid long term care plan through Unum with the option to upgrade and include family members at the employee's cost.

Retirement Systems

Full-time Faculty, Full-time Classified Staff and Leadership automatically contribute to either CalPERS or CalSTRS retirement systems. Part-time Faculty may elect CalSTRS membership at the time of hire or thereafter.
