COD Has 30 Nominations from the Desert Star Awards
Cast members, directors, and choreographers in College of the Desert’s performing arts program are among the nominees for the Desert Theatre League Desert Star Awards, which will be announced later this year. COD productions are also nominated for hair and makeup design, sound and lighting design, props and special effects, and overall production.
Les Miserables is up for 15 awards, including Musical-Director Darlene Romano, Director of a Musical, Outstanding Production-Musical/Opera/Pageant, Choreographer of a Musical, Lead Actor-Musical, Lead Actress-Musical, five Supporting Actor- Actress nominations, and lighting, sound, and special effects nominations.

Buried Child and Will Any Gentleman?, directed by Tres Dean, have been nominated. Buried Child has two nominations, and Will Any Gentleman? is nominated in two categories. They include: Lead Actor-Drama, Production-Comedy, Director of a Comedy and Director of a Comedy-Professional, Lead Actor-Comedy, The Ron Hamm Award for Hair and Makeup Design-Professional, Lighting Design, and Props and Special Effects-Professional.
Directed by Noemi Villaela Dean, Tuna Christmas has five nominations for Production-Comedy, Director of a Comedy, Lead Actor-Comedy, Lighting Design, and Props and Special Effects-Professional.
The student directed One Acts received six nominations. ‘Dentity Crisis and Twitch were both nominated for Production, Lead Actor and Lead Actress.
Dr. Jim Berg, Dean, Arts and Sciences at COD stated, “The Desert Theater League recognized a range of productions at College of the Desert, including our major musical, Les Miserables, as well as our student directed One Acts. With classes starting September 2, these nominations show the variety of opportunities our students have to learn and exhibit their talents in the performing arts.”
