November 2020: COD’s International Education Month

International Education Week (Nov. 16-20) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education to celebrate the benefits of international cultural exchange and education in the United States. This year, the International Education Program (IEP) would like to invite you to help us celebrate international education throughout the entire month by participating in the following activities.

International Art Competition

The IEP invites COD students to submit art that reflects the theme, Embracing Global Diversity for the chance to win one of three $100 prizes! Art can include paintings, drawings, photography, and sculpture. The deadline for submission is Monday, Nov. 30. For more details, visit

International Photo Contest
International travel may be difficult right now, but we can still celebrate past experiences and find inspiration for future ones! Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit their favorite photos that they’ve taken abroad for a chance to win a $50 prize! Please send photos to iep@collegeofthedesert.edu by Monday, Nov. 30.

Friday, 11/06 – Peruvian Cooking Demonstration

Join our talented Peruvian student Barbara Lira as she shares her grandmother’s family ceviche recipe! This will be the first of three international cooking lessons for the month!

Tuesday, 11/17 – Greetings from Around the World

7:30 p.m. on Instagram TV (IGTV) @ cod_ie
Konichiwa! Join students from around the world to learn greetings and fun phrases in several different languages.

Thursday, 11/19 – International Trivia Competition

Back by popular demand, the IEP invites faculty, staff, students, and family members to join us for an exciting test of global knowledge! There’s no need to make a team in advance this year. Prizes will be awarded for trivia knowledge, global Zoom backgrounds, and international fashion!
