FOTL Author Luncheon Set for Feb. 11
Friends of the College of the Desert Library cordially invites members, friends and other book lovers to the 42nd Annual Author Luncheon and Meeting held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa.
Best selling author Gail Tsukiyama, whose latest bookThe Street of a Thousand Blossoms, will speak at the luncheon. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., a brief annual meeting is scheduled for noon, followed by the gourmet luncheon.
Each attendee will receive a complimentary copy of the book that the author will sign.
Gail Tsukiyama is the bestselling author of five previous novels including The Samurai’s Garden, Women of the Silk, Night of Many Dreams, and The Language of Threads, as well as the recipient of the Academy of American Poets Award and the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award. She was one of nine fiction authors to appear during the first Library of Congress National Book Festival.
Tsukiyama was born in San Francisco, to a Japanese father and Chinese mother. She attended San Francisco State University, where she received both her Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Arts degree in English with the emphasis on creative writing. She has always been fascinated by social groups who live and work outside the mainstream. The Street of a Thousand Blossoms is a powerfully moving masterpiece about tradition and change, loss and renewal, and love and family.
