Friends of the Library 42nd Annual Book Sale is Mar. 23-25
The Friends of the College of the Desert Library gear up for their 42nd Annual Spring Book Sale Mar. 23-25, 2012.
The annual fundraising event, sponsored by The Friends of the Library, is the oldest book sale in the Coachella Valley, with thousands of books in all genres. All proceeds benefit the COD Library.
The Sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mar. 23-25, 2012, in the Cravens Student Services Center. A Members-Only Sale is set for Mar. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Friends of the College of the Desert Library (FOTL), founded almost 42 years ago by a group of dedicated individuals, has the mission to maintain an organization based at the College of the Desert, to share the members' enthusiasm for literature and libraries and to raise funds to achieve these aims.
The Friends contribute annually to the Library and over the past 42 years have contributed over $500,000 with the Library deciding the best utilization of the annual donation.
The organization raises funds and fulfills its mission in several ways. “We have annual book sales where donated books from the community are reasonably priced and sold as previously enjoyed books,” said FOTL President Marge Dodge. The Friends hold the traditional Spring and Fall Books Sales and recently added the very successful Summer Book Sale. In addition to the book sales authors are introduced to the community at their annual Author Lunches. “We have recently had authors Susan Vreeland, Lisa See, Aimee Bender and Gail Tsukiyama as guest speakers,” stated Dodge. The group also has a monthly Book Review Group meeting.
