​Ceremonies Mark the End of the Semester

Several ceremonies have been planned to honor students for completing their program, transferrable credits, certificate or degrees. Below is a list of the recognition ceremonies with a few details about each. Feel free to attend all of the events to honor COD students!

May 23, 2013:  The 25th College of the Desert Public Safety Academy Basic Peace Officer Training Awards Ceremony will be held 2013, at 6 p.m. in the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. The ceremony will be preceded by a formal cadet inspection in front of the theatre entrance at 5:15 p.m.

Approximately 45 Module II and III cadets will be receiving certificates for meeting the training requirements prescribed by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training for Level II and III-Reserve Peace Officers in the State of California.

The keynote speaker will be Fall 2009 Module II graduate Dr. Bohdan Olesnicky, M.D. Welcoming remarks will be provided by COD Superintendent/President Dr. Joel Kinnamon. Cadet Justin Gardiner will be providing remarks on behalf of Module III, and Cadet Rusty Harling will be providing remarks on behalf of Module II.  Selected cadets will be recognized for their excellence in leadership, academics and marksmanship. Several scholarships will also be presented. A reception will immediately follow in the lobby of the theatre.

 



May 24, 2013:
  A colorful Nurses Pinning ceremony at the McCallum Theatre will induct College of the Desert students into the nursing ranks.

Approximately thirty-eight students have earned the Associate Degree in Nursing and are now eligible to take the licensing examination to become RNs. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. in the McCallum Theatre, 73000 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert.

Addressing the students will be COD’s Superintendent/President Dr. Joel Kinnamon, the Dean of Health Sciences and Education Dr. Leslie Young, and Director of Nursing, Allied Health Wayne Boyer and fellow nursing graduates. Nursing faculty Anna Reber-Frantz and Kathy Hudgins will be reading the student acknowledgements. Faculty members will pin the eligible students. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

 

May 24, 2013:  Commencement at Boone Football Field beginning at 7:30 p.m. Over six hundred students are graduating from COD and over three hundred will participate in the annual Commencement ceremony. Guest speakers, entertainment and reception following the ceremony in Wright Gymnasium.
