COD Nurses' Pinning Ceremony
College of the Desert’s Health Sciences Division honored twenty-three students at a pinning ceremony on Friday, Sept. 7, held in the McCallum Theatre, Palm Desert.
COD’s pinning ceremony is a time-honored rite of passage that goes back more than 150 years to the Nightingale School of Nursing in London. The school’s legendary founder, Florence Nightingale, honored her graduating students with a pin as a symbol of excellence.
The vocational nursing students were pinned in recognition of having completed the one-year training course that leads to the Licensed Vocational Nursing exam. The student class speakers were Mindi Rodriguez and Christian Flores. Representing the faculty was Assistant Nursing Professor Betty Baluski. Presenting the pins to the students was Monica Pryzgocki, Lead VN faculty.
