​plEDGE Volunteer Information

plEDGE students are required to complete 10 hours of community service during the Fall 2017-Spring 2018 academic year. This requirement must be met to remain eligible for the two years of free tuition through plEDGE. 
A plEDGE volunteer form must be filled out, indicating that the required 10 volunteer hours have been completed. This form must be completed and turned in at the EDGE Office located at the Palm Desert Campus, in Liberal Arts 1. It may also be turned at the respective administrative offices at our College of the Desert Indio, Mecca, or Desert Hot Springs campus locations.

​Desert Recreation District


The Disability Sports Festival:
January 27, 2018 in Palm Desert.
Palm Desert Senior Games & International Sports Festival:
Thursday, February 8 – Sunday, February 11 2018 in Palm Desert.

Fall Festivals, Fairs, Princess Party, Haunted House Event, and Santa’s Hotline:                    

Desert Recreation District has several special events throughout the year. These events would be a great place for students majoring in Theatre Arts, Kinesiology, Child Development, as well as other areas of emphasis.  
If interested, volunteers would contact Marie in advance to fill out a volunteer application. The application will be reviewed by the Supervisor and Coordinator, and students will also be assigned a placement.
These events are a fun, and an inspiring way to volunteer. It serves as a pathway for employment through the COD work-experience program as well.

​Variety-The Children's Charity Scramble


Bike giveaway:
December 10th at Palm Springs Motors, 69200 Highway 111, Cathedral City. The even takes place from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
*Volunteer orientation is the 2nd Monday monthly from 10:00 am-11:00am in the Variety office.

​Kindred Hospice


This volunteer opportunity requires only one thing: your heart.
Volunteer today to help patients and their families when they need help the most.
Volunteers give their time in two ways:
Patient Visit Volunteer: Providing companionship and support through conversation, leisure activities or by being a supportive presence.
Administrative Volunteer: Providing office support through clerical duties such as data entry, filing, or phone calling.
Additional Information:
  • Volunteers will go through a background check (no charge)
  • 8-hour training provided (divided into 2 sessions/days)
  • TB Test, Hepatitis B, and Flu shot will be free of charge as well
  • A letter of recommendation will be provided to student volunteers who complete a minimum of 60 hours through the Work Experience class.

Orientation is held at 6:00 p.m. on the following dates listed at the MVK campus located at: 83791 Date Avenue, Indio. Orientation includes an overview of volunteer policies and procedures, a tour of the facility, and a discussion of current opportunities.​

Coachella Valley Sexual Assault Services


Coachella Valley Sexual Assault Services is seeking community members who would like to volunteer their time with survivors in the community.
