S-STEM Scholarship Opportunity

In collaboration with California State University San Bernardino, College of the Desert is offering scholarships in order to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students. Awards are up to $5,000 for STEM majors that are two years from transfer and up to $6,000 for STEM majors that are one year from transfer. In addition, if students transfer in an eligible major to CSUSB, they are automatically eligible for up to $8,000.

Eligibility:

  • Citizens of the United States, nationals of the United States, aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence

  • Completed SEP leading to transfer to a 4-year institution as a STEM major

  • Eligible for federal financial aid based on completed FAFSA

  • Enrolled as a full-time student during the 2018-2019 academic year

  • Grade point average of 2.75 in math and science courses and 2.5 overall

Application packet must include:

  • Completed S-STEM Scholarship Application

  • FAFSA confirming financial aid eligibility

  • Copy of SEP leading to transfer to a 4-year institution as a STEM major (excludes pre-health majors).

  • Transcript confirming:

    • Grade Point Average: 2.75 in math and science courses and 2.5 overall

    • Completion of or current enrollment in Math 12 (Pre-Calculus)

  • Two letters of recommendation, from former or current STEM instructors stressing student’s academic potential and dedication

  • 300-word essay including student’s motivation for pursuing a STEM degree, summary of career goals and a statement of service to the COD and the community

Submit application packet to the School of Math and Science Office in person by April 6, 2018. Incomplete application packets or applications submitted by others will not be accepted.
