Mecca/Thermal Campus - Academic Services

The following services are available at our Mecca/Thermal Campus.

Fall/Spring Hours of Operation:

  • Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Students may use the lab for homework, for online coursework, and to complete College forms and applications. TASC staff are available and on-site to assist with your needs. For detailed information, including tutoring hours, please see the TASC Lab site.

College of the Desert provides students with access to online tutoring services from Smarthinking. With Smarthinking, students can chat with a live tutor up to 24 hours a day from ANY internet connection.

Tutors are available for a wide range of subjects including writing (for any course), math (basic math through calculus II), accounting, statistics, finance, economics, biology, nursing & allied health, physics, chemistry, office applications, and Spanish. Students can also submit completed drafts of writing assignments from any course to Smarthinking's Writing Center for a tutor to review. The tutor will provide a detailed, personalized feedback about the submitted paper, typically within 24 hours.

To connect with a tutor online, follow these steps:

  1. Go to
  2. Enter your username and password.
  • Your username is your “” email address.
  • Your password is “COD” plus your birth date in MMDDYY format.

For example, if your birth date is 2/4/93, then your password is COD020493. You can change your password in the “Profile” section of the "Manage Account" tab

Additionally, find all your course textbooks at Indio, Wenzlaff, Palm Springs or MTC, you can use them on site only. Access all of our electronic resources, such as e-books and database literature. When scheduling your assessment test please have your student ID number ready.

All new students are expected to take the assessment test, except those who have completed English Composition and Intermediate Algebra with grades of C or better at another accredited institution.

ESLN registration and testing are available.
