ASCOD College of the Desert Elections 2017/2018 Applications Available!

As the peer advocates for the students of College of the Desert, we strive to promote higher education, a sense of community, diversity, student involvement and act as your liaison to the faculty, administration and state, to ensure that the needs of the students both social and educational, are enhanced and met. Our purpose is to serve our fellow students, as well as making their College of the Desert Experience, a memorable one.

Applications for all positions due to the Office of Student Life by 12 noon

ELIGIBILTY

All candidates and applicants will have their eligibility confirmed as part of the process. To be a candidate or applicant, the following must be met:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student carrying at least six units at College of the Desert
  • Must have successfully completed a minimum of six units the previous semester
  • Executive Officers must have at least a 2.5 GPA, both cumulatively and for the current term
  • Student Senators must have at least a 2.0 GPA, both cumulatively and for the current term

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The primary duty of all student leaders is to serve as the voice for the students of COD and participating in shared governance. This can include but not limited to outreach, advocacy, attending meetings, open forums, sending out regular updates, etc. Student leaders set their own goals and create the plan for achieving those goals.

    OTHER OVERALL DUTIES INCLUDE:

    • Serve on three college-wide committees or standing committees each semester
    • Attend one College of the Desert Board of Trustee meeting each semester
    • Required to submit Progress Reports for all classes at least two (2) times per semester to the Director of Student Life for review and recommendations. Failure to comply could result in your removal from office.
    • Once elected/appointed as an ASCOD officer, you are required to comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the College. Any violation of the COD Student Code of Conduct either current or pre-existing is grounds for removal from office.

Being an ASCOD student leader demands a great deal of time, and commitment and it proves to be very rewarding; a great way to develop professionally and a lot of fun!
