College of the Desert provides an exceptional setting for its Turfgrass Management Program. The College, nestled in the Heartland of southern California's golf mecca, has over 75 golf courses within a twenty minute drive of campus. These championship courses host four of the country's prestigious professional tournaments: The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, the Skins Games, the Nabisco Dinah Shore and the Vintage Tournament. Several other local courses, conduct qualifying schools for PGA and LPGA members to obtain player cards for the professional tours.
Located in the center of the local golf resort community, the College provides a tailor-made environment for students to learn the specialized skills required for a successful career in Turfgrass Management. College of the Desert's dedicated faculty combine the traditional college education with years of professional experience. The professors are able to take technical concepts and make them more understandable to the students by sharing personal industry experience with them. This unique approach to educating the students fully prepares them to embark on an exciting career as turfgrass managers.
The College offers two programs of study:
A two-year Associate of Science Degree in Turfgrass Management
A one-year Certificate in Turfgrass Management
The occupational Turfgrass Management Program is specifically designed for students wishing to enter the work place with a strong "hands-on" education. A major priority of the Turfgrass Management Program is to prepare students for an easy transition from a school environment to the work place.
Students may attend classes whether on a part-time or full-time schedule. Classes are taught in the evenings as well as during the day, allowing students the option of working while pursuing their degree in Turfgrass Management.
