The nursing department offers advanced placement opportunities that permit students with equivalent learning to pursue College of the Desert’s (COD) registered nursing program at an accelerated rate. Advanced placement is defined as entering the program at a level beyond the first semester. Potential students include students who wish to transfer from another nursing program, Licensed Vocational nurses wanting to continue their education to become registered nurses, and students wishing to apply equivalent health care experience toward an Associate Degree in nursing.
Please view current policy information in the college catalog.
NOTE: Current enrollment numbers in the RN program have made placement in the 30-Unit Option track and accommodation of transfer students difficult. Please continue to monitor the Nursing website for updated information.

Notice: LVN-to-RN Transition Class to be Offered in the Fall 2010 Semester:
After reviewing the needs of local area students and COD resources, the Nursing Department is pleased to announce that the course, Transition to Registered Nurse (HS 055), will be offered in the fall of 2010. LVNs successfully completing HS 055 will then move forward into Nursing 3 in the spring of 2011.
(Entrance into Nursing 3 in spring 2011 from HS 55 is based on space-available, random selection.) We are endeavoring to consistently offer this course each fall and spring semester. By consistently offering HS 055 in the Nursing Program, it is COD’s intent to assist LVN’s to further their personal goals, increase the overall strength of COD Nursing graduates, and to further enhance the nursing workforce in the Coachella Valley.

  • Thirty-Unit Option (Non-Degree Option)
Applicants who are currently licensed California LVN's desiring to complete courses required for California RN licensure. Note: This is a non-degree option. States other than California may not recognize this educational track as a valid preparation for licensure.
    Application for 30-Unit Option available October 1 - October 31, 2010

  • Transfer Students from Registered Nurse Program
Transfer applicants are students with previous nursing education from a Board of Registered Nursing approved registered nurse program.
