The Intensive English Academy (IEA) is a high quality intensive English program that will assist students to learn English skills that will be needed for entering an American university or college. The program stresses academic English preparation and provides TOEFL test training.

The IEA is also ideal for students wanting to learn English and experience American culture.  Our resort location makes it a great place for students to learn English, enjoy outdoor activities and make new friends!

Our beautiful location in one of the most famous resort towns in California - Palm Springs - makes the IEA a perfect choice to begin your studies.  Palm Springs is famous for golf, spas, casinos and outdoor activities.  Our small town lifestyle is perfect for those wanting to relax and study in a beautiful and safe location.  We are only 2 hours by car from the beach, mountains, Los Angeles and San Diego.  You can see it all from our Palm Springs location!  Please visit www.palmspringsusa.com for more information on our beautiful city.

What Will I Study at the IEA?

Classes:

Whether you want to learn English to prepare for university study, or want to experience life in America, the Intensive English Academy (IEA) has a program for you!  

The IEA offers courses from Beginning to Advanced levels.  Our 30 hour per week program combines 25 hours per week of classroom instruction and 5 hours per week in our Foreign Language Lab using the latest computer technology. 

Classes include:

 Grammar/Writing 7.5 hours per week 
 Oral Communication 7.5 hours per week 
 Reading 5 hours per week
 Specialized Courses 5 hours per week 
     Level 1:  Vocabulary Building  
     Level 2:  Conversation  
     Level 3:  TOEFL Preparation  

Students learn through assignments, field trips, in-class activities, and homework.  Students are encouraged to actively participate in their classes.

Our teachers are all trained in English language instruction and enjoy working with our international students.  Many of our teachers teach at the college level and are aware of the English skills required to succeed in college/university.  Our goal is to teach you English and help you learn about American life and culture!

 Certificates of Completion:

All students receive official grade reports at the end of each session.  Grade reports indicate letter grades and are used to determine if the student is able to advance to the next level.

Upon completion of our Advanced Level (Level 3) students will receive a Certificate of Completion indicating their achievement.

In addition, students who complete our Advanced Level are eligible to enter College of the Desert without the TOEFL!


IEA Program Dates:

 8-week and 16-week programs available!

Select from any of our IEA program start dates.  You can choose to study for as short as 8 weeks or up to 1 year from any of the dates listed below.

IEA Program Fees:

Your tuition includes:

ü 25 hours per week of class instruction
ü 5 hours per week of use of computer language lab facilities
ü Access to College of the Desert facilities
ü Activities

 8 week program tuition:  USD $1,850
 16 week program tuition:  USD $3,600

How To Apply to the IEA: 

International student application to the Intensive English Academy (IEA) is easy and the response time is fast!  Just complete these simple steps and you can begin your studies in beautiful Palm Springs, California!

STEP 1:          Download the International Student Application:  2008-2009 application

If you cannot download the application, you can request the International Student Application by sending an email to cdelgado@collegeofthedesert.edu or by clicking on this link:  Request Additional Information.

STEP 2:            Submit the following documents to:  Intensive English Academy, 43-500 Monterey Avenue, Palm Desert,
                         CA  
92260, USA by the listed application deadline

2. $25.00 application fee

erification of financial sponsorship

4. 2 passport photographs
5. Housing Application
6. Proof of high school graduation (recommended for college bound students)
NOTE:  All students must be 18 years of age or older

The TOEFL is NOT required for IEA applicants!

STEP 3:          Upon receipt of your acceptance documents and I-20, contact the US Embassy in your home country to apply
                      for the F-1 visa.
