TRANSFER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA

Visit the University of California Web site at www.ucop.edu for information about each campus, including specific majors and programs, university admission requirements and application deadlines.  You may apply online through this site, as well.

Transfer from C.O.D. with upper division (junior) standing:

  1. UNITS: Complete 60 UC-transferable units with a minimum 2.4 transfer grade point average (gpa).  Non-residents must have a 2.8 transfer gpa.  For course transferability, check www.assist.org for the UC Transfer Course Agreement with College of the Desert.
  2. MINIMUM COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Complete your Basic Skills requirements early in your academic career with grades of "C" or better in each course:

- Two semesters of English composition: English 1A and either English 1B,  or SOC 4
(SOC 4 also fulfills Critical Thinking requirement)

- College Level Math (10, 12, or 14, 1A; or SOC 3)

- Four (4) transferable college courses (3 semester units each) from at least two of the following subject areas with grades of "C" or better in each course:

- The arts and humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the physical and biological sciences.

  1. MAJOR: Complete your Major Preparation requirements.  Consult with your Faculty Advisor and read the catalogue requirements of your transfer institution for course selection. If the major you are applying to is impacted, it is necessary for you to complete all lower division major requirements that C.O.D. has to offer before transferring.
  2. GENERAL EDUCATION CERTIFICATION*: Completion of all General Education requirements will permit you to transfer from C.O.D. to U.C. without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower division general education courses that satisfy campus general education requirements.

- For General Education Certification from College of the Desert, complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum with grades of "C" or better in each course.

- *NOTE: If you are a high-unit major (e.g., math, science, engineering, architecture), do not complete the General Education certification at the expense of your major preparation.  Majors and programs for which the I.G.E.T.C. is inappropriate.

- *If you are a Liberal Studies major seeking the Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, do not follow the I.G.E.T.C.  Instead, complete the Liberal Studies curriculum requirements for transfer.

Apply during the Priority Filing Period.  If you are applying for the fall term, complete all coursework by the end of the spring semester.  Do not use Summer Session to fulfill transfer requirements.

  1. Apply for Financial Aid ( www.fafsa.ed.gov ) no later than March 2nd.
  2. Earn good grades.  The UCs are competitive, and meeting only the minimum requirements is not sufficient to gain admission into many campuses and majors.
