The Individual Title V HSI-Student Affairs grant strives to increase the readiness of entering students to succeed in college by providing programs and services to enhance student success.
GOAL
Positively impact College of the Desert’s ability to offer expanded and quality programs in the area of strengthening basic skills through the College Readiness Initiative (CRI)/EDGE Program which fosters student success, aims to reduce the number of remedial courses, and increase retention and persistence. EDGE also assists with academic attainment of Hispanic students and supports institutional stability.
PURPOSE
The purpose of EDGE is to help students “Engage,Develop, Grow and [be] Empowered”. EDGE provides first-year college students with a full range of experiences including:
four weeks of summer intensive math and English review
college student success strategies
a dedicated counselor to provide academic advising
supplemental Instructional Leaders (SI)
assistance with financial aid applications and information about financial literacy
After completing the summer program, students will have the opportunity to retake the placement test in English, reading, and math and potentially place into higher-level courses saving them time and money at COD! These services are provided by the Individual Title V HSI-Student Affairs grant so there is NO COST to students!
