The Short-Story Book Club
Attention Roadrunners: Do you have a passion for reading, but can’t seem to find the time to enjoy a great story? If so, the Office of Student Life’s Short-Story Book Club is the perfect opportunity for you!
The Short-Story Book Club will provide College of the Desert students with all of the advantages of a regular book club, which includes materials, peer discussions and a Q&A session with the author. In addition, the focus on short stories also allows students the time to read and discuss literature amongst their peers.
September’s Short-Story Book Club session will feature renowned local author Tod Goldberg on September 30, 2021, from 6 to 7 p.m., through Zoom. The Club will be reading one of Goldberg’s original short stories titled Goon Number Four, a fictional modern-crime story that takes place at College of the Desert!
Tod Goldberg is the New York Times bestselling author of over a dozen books, including The Low Desert, Gangsterland (a finalist for the Hammett Prize), Gangster Nation, The House of Secrets (which he co-authored with Brad Meltzer), Living Dead Girl (a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize), and the popular Burn Notice series. Tod Goldberg holds a MFA in Creative Writing & Literature from Bennington College and is a Professor of creative writing at the University of California, Riverside, where he directs the Low Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts.
The Short-Story Book Club will be reading Goon Number Four by author Tod Goldberg. The Club will meet for a discussion and a Q&A session with the author on the proposed date and time, through Zoom.
