Student Scholarship Exhibit Continues

College of the Desert is pleased to announce the Annual Student Scholarship Exhibition starting May 2 through May 24 at the Marks Art Center. There will be an artists’ reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided. Musical entertainment will be provided by Ocho Ojos.

Students majoring in Art, or Digital Design and Production (Graphic Design) are eligible for scholarships made possible by the Dumont Foundation, as well as Nancy H. Bacon, Ruth Stark, and Joyce Norton. This year, 15 students received scholarships: Astrid Acero, Arturo Aguilar, Delilah Avena, Chloe Bahr, Melissa Enriquez-Gonzalez, William Fike, Mai Kemmotsu, Elisha Kolp, Francisco Lemus, Jose Lopez, Lalaine Ramirez, Isel Salazar, Israel Valdez, Abel Venegas and Leah Woodfield. Much of the students’ artwork is also for sale, thus providing an excellent opportunity to support students while acquiring original art.

In addition to work by COD students, the Marks Art Center will showcase artwork by students from the Palm Springs Unified School District, in collaboration with S.C.R.A.P. Gallery, an exhibition titled "Sign of the Times."

The Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts (MAC) is a nonprofit facility that supports arts education and enriches the cultural life of our students, faculty and community.
