LGBTQIA Scholarships Available

​The Baird Fransiak LGBTQIA Scholarship

Applications for the Baird Fransiak LGBTQIA Scholarship are now being accepted. 


The College of the Desert Foundation’s Baird Fransiak fund proudly supports the college’s LGBTQIA student community with generous awards for students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, or Asexual. 


Five $1000 scholarships will be awarded for the spring 2021 semester.     

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, or Asexual (LGBTQIA)
  • Be registered for spring 2021 College of the Desert semester before the application deadline.   

How to Apply:

Applications must be submitted no later than January 22, 2021.

As a part of this online application, applicants will be requested to provide a statement, which is 400-500 words in length, answering the following: 

  • What have been your experiences as an LGBTQIA student?
  • What do you believe College of the Desert can do to support the success of LGBTQIA students?    
  • How you would support other LGBTQIA students as a Baird Fransiak Scholarship recipient?


Award Notification and Follow-up:

Scholarship recipients will be notified by email of their award.

  • Applicants who did not receive the scholarship will also be notified by email after scholarships have been awarded.
  • Scholarship recipients are expected to submit a letter of gratitude to Baird Fransiak family. 
  • Additional information will be provided to scholarship recipients about the process required to receive the award funds.​
