New Public Information Officer Brings Local Experience and Expertise to the Job

College of the Desert welcomes its new Public Information Officer (PIO), Nicholas Robles. In this role, Robles will oversee communications about the College’s programs, events, faculty expertise, and student achievements with the public and employees. Robles stepped into the role on Monday, March 28, 2022, after the College had been without a PIO since September 2021.

Robles moved to the Coachella Valley in 2019 and immediately began to sense the community’s resiliency and strength. He witnessed and got to be a part of the community’s efforts to rally around essential workers and to keep the Coachella Valley moving forward despite the global shutdown. Now, Robles is eager to apply his nearly two decades of communications experience to the role of PIO for – College of the Desert. He foresees his specialties in outreach, digital storytelling and communications strategy development being especially useful.

“We are thrilled to welcome Nicholas to College of the Desert and look forward to his contributions in carrying out our work as a center of collaboration and innovation in the region. This is an important position,” said Superintendent/President Martha Garcia, Ed.D.

Prior to joining College of the Desert, Robles was Chief of Public Affairs at SunLine Transit Agency in Thousand Palms, where he worked since 2019. He is fluent in Spanish and has also worked in communications for award-winning local governments and law firms.

Robles holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge and a master’s in communication from National University.
