New Lease Agreement Continues McCallum's Community Offerings

College of the Desert and the Friends of the Cultural Center entered into a new 66-year lease agreement, allowing the McCallum Theatre to continue serving visitors, residents and students of the Coachella Valley.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with the world-class McCallum Theatre. We know this partnership provides a special learning environment for our students and faculty,” said College Superintendent/President Joel L. Kinnamon, Ed.D.

College of the Desert has a rich history of partnering with the community to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life in the Coachella Valley.

“In 1984 when our College Board of Trustees agreed to a proposal that would allow the theatre to be built on the corner of campus, they had no idea of the magnitude of that decision. Besides being a premier venue, hosting some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, it also offers arts literacy experiences for as many as 40,000 students, parents and educators every year,” said Dr. Kinnamon.

The College will continue to utilize the McCallum Theatre for various student productions, commencement/graduation ceremonies and the College of the Desert Foundation’s annual gala, Stepping Out for COD.

“We are looking forward to expanded opportunities for collaboration for education and special events for our campus community and Coachella Valley residents,” added Dr. Kinnamon.
