College of the Desert Special Meeting Update
At a special meeting held on April 6, 2022, the College of the Desert Board of Trustees received input from the public and an extensive review by staff of the proposed location of the future Roadrunner Motors project.
Three sites for the facility were presented at the meeting. The sites include the original site (Ecoplex), which is adjacent to the Cathedral City Auto Center, an alternate location in Cathedral City along Perez Road, and a location in Indio near the Auto Center. During the special board meeting, staff informed the Board that the Indio location is no longer for sale. Negotiating for this site property would require additional time and expenses.
Back in October 2021, after careful consideration, College of the Desert sought alternative sites for possible consideration due to rising costs quoted for the original site. Today’s meeting was to gather feedback and input from the community. In addition, for College staff to provide an in-depth look and fiscal review of the original site and comparable sites to ensure that the College is being a good fiscal steward and prudent with public funds.
College of the Desert will hold its next regularly scheduled board meeting and expected to vote on a final location for Roadrunner Motors on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. For more information, please visit collegeofthedesert.edu.
