Attend Feb. 17 Board Meeting for Final Decision on Redistricting Map
The College of the Desert Board of Trustees will vote on the final redistricting map at its regular Board meeting on Thursday, February 17, 2022. The new map will define the Trustee’s voting districts and ensure population compliance in each area.
The redistricting process occurs every 10 years to redraw election boundaries based on population changes reflected in the U.S. Census. The effort began in September 2021 and has involved open meeting discussions, a citizens’ advisory committee, and public comment.
“The public’s assistance with this process has been invaluable,” said Board Chair Rubén AríAztlán Pérez. “We look forward to updating the boundaries to ensure Coachella Valley residents have a voice in selecting Trustees who best represent their interests.”
Earlier this month, the five-member Citizens’ Advisory Committee reviewed two map options for the Board of Trustees to consider. The committee worked with a demographer, District staff, and legal counsel to analyze the proposed maps.
The Board will consider committee members’ feedback and discussion before adopting the final map, which will be sent to Riverside County. Any boundary adjustments would be effective starting with the November 8, 2022, District election and would be used until the next Census.
