The College of the Desert Rising Scholars Program provides academic and holistic support for incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and system-impacted students. Our program creates a pathway to higher education for individuals affected by the carceral system and assists them in achieving their academic goals, including transfer to four-year institutions.
We are committed to challenging the stigmas associated with being involved with the carceral system by cultivating a sense of belonging, empowerment, and community among our students. Rising Scholars fosters an inclusive and supportive environment where carceral-impacted students can thrive both academically and personally.
While our primary focus is on supporting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students, we also recognize that the carceral system affects families, friends, and entire communities. Therefore, we proudly extend our services to system-impacted individuals—those who may have arrests or convictions without incarceration, as well as those who have been directly affected by the incarceration of a loved one. We acknowledge that partners, parents, children, and siblings often experience profound challenges due to the absence of their loved ones, and we affirm their place within the Rising Scholars community.
We are located next to Beeps Cafe. In Dining Hall, room 112.
We are open Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
