Employability Skills – Digital Badges

Building your employability skills increases your competitiveness in the job market, reveals more workforce opportunities, and improves your earnings - thus achieving economic mobility. College of the Desert provides curriculum that stregthens your skills in any workplace regardless of your desired filed of study. 

Employability Skills Courses

  • Are short-term (two weeks long)
  • Are available asynchronous and completely online via Canvas
  • Available in credit and non-credit format
    • Credit Courses: 
      • Are .5 credit per course.
      • Are GPA bound.
      • Are covered under financial aid (if you qualify).
      • Do not transfer to CSU, US, or private post-secondary institutions. However, they are essential to the advancement of any career.
      • You receive a Digital Badge upon sucessful completion. 
    • Non-credit Courses:
      • Are completely free!
      • Pass or Fail grade provided. 
      • Are not GPA bound.
      • "A" course - week 1, "B" course - week 2. 
      • Do not exaust you financial aid.
      • Do not transfer to CSU, US, or private post-secondary institutions. However, they are essential to the advancement of any career.
      • You receive a Digital Badge upon sucessful completion. 
      • You receive a certificate of completion upon completion of an "A" and "B" course series.
    • Both credit and non-credit courses follow the same course content. The only distinction is the course titles and the distinctions listed above.

How to Enroll in Employability Skills Courses

Earning Digital Badges for Employability Skills

Upon successful completion of an Employability Skills course, students earn a digital badge.

Employability Skills Digital Badges are:

  • a micro-credential that verifies a specific skill to an employer
  • a digital badge that can set your resume apart from others
  • a way to highlight your key strengths and skills within an academic program

Why Do Employability Skills Matter?

Badges can help to explain and show a future employer the skills and strenghts that you mastered within your courses.

Where Can I Track and Manage My Employability Skills Badges?

The Work Experience Office will email you once you have earned a digital badge. 

  1. Log in to your MyCOD Student Portal
  2. Click on the Canvas Credentials logo (formerly Badgr)
  3. Click on the option to sign in with College of the Desert (Do not select the second option to enter an email and password)
  4. Click on Backpack to view your earned badges and share as needed
