Financial Support for COD's LGBTQIA+ Students

The GSD Pride Center Team works closely with College of the Desert's Financial Aid office to help LGBTQIA+ students obtain the financial support they need to complete their academic goals.

COD Financial Aid

We encourage all students who have not done so already to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application. The College of the Desert’s Financial Aid department has many resources available including assistance completing the financial aid application process. Additionally, the college has a new scholarship application system for COD Foundation awards, which include scholarships specifically for the college’s LGBTQIA+ students. Safe Schools Desert Cities

Safe Schools Desert Cities is an organization that brings together local schools’ Gay Straight Alliances to provide resources and support for LGBTQIA+ students. In addition to hosting a variety of events, the organization has generous financial aid for local LGBTQIA+ students in need.

L-Fund

The Mission of the L-Fund is to empower Lesbians and Trans-Lesbians through financial crisis assistance, education grants, health and wellness programs and grants for the arts.

Point Foundation Scholarships

The Point Foundation Community College Scholarship Program provides scholarships to LGBTQ community college students who aspire to transfer to a four-year college or university. Students who receive this scholarship can receive up to $4,800 as well as admissions counseling, coaching, and financial education assistance. The Point Foundation has a variety of other support programs for LGBTQ students.

VIDA LGBTQ Latinx Scholarships

VIDA is an organization that promotes and supports health and HIV education in the Latinx LGBTQ community and beyond. Please visit the VIDA scholarship website to learn more about support available for LGBTQ Latinz students.

Additional LGBTQIA Scholarship Opportunities

Many organizations and foundations offer scholarship awards specifically for LGBTQIA students to ensure lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual students have the opportunity to pursue higher education.
