Curatorial Proposals

The Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts accepts year-round individual and group curatorial exhibition proposals. Programming at the Arts Center is planned well in advance and proposals are only considered for the next academic year and beyond. If your proposal is accepted, we will contact you. 

Curator proposals are open to regional and international emerging and established curators, art collectives, and institutions. 

All chosen curatorial proposals must follow the guidelines and procedures of College of the Desert as well as the Walter N. Marks Center. The curator will be asked to present a gallery walk through, an artist panel discussion, or a curators talk at the Marks Arts Center during the exhibition. 

Proposals must include the following: 

• The curator’s conceptual exhibition statement, including the title of the exhibition, the theme, and the relationship of the artworks to one another.  

• A minimum of six artists required per each curatorial proposal.

• The curator's resume/CV, along with each artists' biography, website, social media, and contact information (mailing address, email address and phone number). 

• Indicate which gallery you would like to use (the Alumni Gallery, Leberman Gallery, Cravens Gallery)

• Include 10 - 15 images of artwork to be considered for the exhibition. Label each image with the artist's name and artwork title. It is best to format your images as jpeg files that are approximately 4"x6" at 72 dpi. We will request higher resolution images if necessary. 

• Image List: Please include a numbered list, that corresponds with the images, and includes artist name, title, media, size, price, and date for all works.
