The mission of College of the Desert's Dreamer Resource Center is to improve student success and help to successfully transition AB 540 student into college. The center provides academic advising, counseling, and referrals to student service programs in a welcoming environment where Dreamers can connect with campus and community resources.

Undocumented Student Action Week: October 18-22, 2021

Serving the largest population of undocumented students in the state, CA Community Colleges are committed to serving ALL students, regardless of immigration status. Join us for Undocumented Student Action Week, as we advocate and provide support and resources for our undocumented student population at College of the Desert.

                             All events are virtual unless noted otherwise.

Monday 10/18 – 10am – 2pm
20 Year Anniversary AB 540 Conference 

This virtual conference presented by Immigrants Rising will bring together legislators, administrators, educators, students, and community members from across California to celebrate the successes created through AB 540! A variety of 1-hour workshops will be available for students, administrators and more.

Tuesday 10/19 – 12pm – 3pm
CA Dream Act Application Workshop
Location: South Annex 1

Get assistance to complete your California Dream Act Application (CADAA) to receive college Financial Aid for the 2022-2023 academic year. This event will in-person at the Dreamer Resource Center. All COD COVID-19 Student Requirements will be observed.  

In collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid. Refreshments will be provided!

Student Participants will be entered to an opportunity drawing for a $25 DoorDash gift card, courtesy of our community partner TODEC Legal Center


Wednesday 10/20 – 6pm – 7pm
“Celebrating Our Existence Through Filmmaking” 
A presentation by Armando Ibañez

Armando Ibañez is the creator of Undocumented Tales, a web series about an undocumented queer Latinx immigrant in the United States. Armando uses his own experiences to bring representation on the screen to empower his community. Undocumented Tales breaks the stereotypes and misconceptions of immigrant and LGBTQIA+ communities on the screen. Join us for an empowering conversation to encourage all misrepresented communities to tell our own stories. 

In partnership with the COD Gender and Sexual Diversity Pride Center and the Office of Student Life.

Thursday 10/21 – 12pm – 2pm 
UndocuAlly Training

This training is designed for Staff, Faculty and Administrators to expand their knowledge on how to be an ally to undocumented students, to continue supporting them, and to fostering a welcoming environment for our students at COD.

The purpose of the UndocuAlly Training is to inform faculty, staff and administrators about the needs and experiences of undocumented students. The goal is to increase awareness and to continue fostering a welcoming environment for our students on campus.

Friday 10/22 – 5pm- 7pm
“It’s time to celebrate US!”
Location: South Annex 

An evening for Undocumented Students  to connect and celebrate with music, games, food, and each other! This event will in-person. All COD COVID-19 Student Requirements will be observed. Registration not required! Refreshments will be provided!

Alas Con Futuro

Alas Con Futuro is a student club at COD. The mission of Alas is to facilitate information on educational opportunities and financial resources for undocumented students. Alas provides presentations throughout the Coachella Valley for AB 540 and first-generation students.
