Outreach

College of the Desert, Financial Aid Office offers a variety of virtual and in-person workshops and presentation, available in English and Spanish. Our team provides support to our local K-12 schools and community organizations to help make the financial aid process easy to understand.

In addition, we partner with the plEDGE/EDGE program to provide outreach across the Coachella Valley. For more information on outreach provided by the EDGE program, visit their webpage.

The following workshops and presentations are available by request. All presentation and workshops are available in English and Spanish, and can be conducted virtually or in-person.

This presentation provides an overview of the types of financial aid offered at College of the Desert. Go in-depth about federal, state, and institutional aid. Provide information about resources available at COD.

Student Outcome: Students will learn more about aid and services offered at COD.

Overview of Financial Aid Applications (FAFSA vs CADAA)

Presentation

(1 hour)

This presentation provide clarification between the FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application, and who should be complete the application. Provides an overview of the two types of financial aid applications available to submit. 

Student Outcome: Students will understand which FA application they would need to submit.

Creating your FSA ID or CA Dream Act Account (student or parent)

Presentation & hands-on Workshop

The first part of this workshop provides a presentation on the required information to create an FSA ID OR a CA Dream Act account. We then transition to the hands-on portion where student and/or parents will create their FSA ID OR CA Dream Act account.

Note, students/parent will need access to the internet/computer to complete process.

Student Outcome: Students will leave the workshop with either their FSA ID/CA Dream Act Account created or tools to help them create the FSA ID or CA Dream Act account.

FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application Assistance

Hands-on Workshop

This workshop provides hands-on help from our Senior FA Specialist. Our team can provide assistance with both the FAFSA and CA Dream Act applications.

Note, students/parent will need access to the internet/computer to complete process. 

Student Outcome: Students will start and/or complete their FA application.

Understanding your FA Package/Award Letter

Presentation

(1 hour)

This presentation will go through the ins & outs of your financial aid package and award/offer letter. Go in-depth what each award, Cost of Attendance, and learning about direct and indirect cost.

Student Outcome: Student will learn how to read their award/offer letter and understand the direct/indirect cost at COD.
