Director Mentors

Director Mentors serve any existing or aspiring early childhood program director in center-based or family child care in the Coachella Valley and can assist with an array of topics from budgeting and personnel and curriculum design and marketing.

The College of the Desert Mentor Program has determined it will keep the Mentor and Director Mentor application process open year round. We will meet twice a year, in January and in April to review applications.

Director Mentors meet the following qualifications:

• No fewer than three years of experience in an ECE supervisory role (does not need to be current)
• Completion of at least three semester units in ECE administration and/or supervision
• Certificate of completion of a Director Mentor Institute
• Completion of a Program Administration Scale (PAS) self-study and selection of seven PAS items to discuss with a site visit team of two Selection Committee members

The Director Mentor Institutes are presented around California each year by staff of the California Early Childhood Mentoring Program.

Request for Assistance from a Mentor Director

If you wish to receive technical assistance from a Mentor Director in the Coachella Valley, please download and complete the first part of information about you and your program on the Director Mentor Placement Contact and submit it to the Mentor Coordinator at the address at the bottom of this page. She will contact you to arrange a Director Mentor to work with you.

If you are a Family Child Care Program director or owner, you may receive technical assistance also if you serve children from birth to three years of age. If you are interested in this assistance, complete the Birth to 3 Family Child Care Homes Director Mentor Request and submit it to the COD Mentor Coordinator at the address listed at the bottom of this page.

Apply to Become a Director Mentor

If you wish to apply to become a Director Mentor, first attend a Director Mentor Institute. Then complete the Director Mentor Preliminary Application and the requested documents and send to the Mentor Coordinator whose address is at the bottom of this page. A full application will require the following documents:

• Preliminary Director Mentor Application and Checklist for Director Mentor Application.
• Director Mentor Application or Director Mentor Re-Certification Application.
• Your current job description (if one already exists).
• An official transcript verifying at least three semester units in ECE administration and/or supervision.
• Verification of completion of a Director Mentor Institute.
• Results of your program’s most recent quality assessment (if one has been done in the last three years).
